We are excited to announce the TC/ESG25 Conference, a collaboration between the Transformations Community, the Earth System Governance Project (ESG), and Wits University. For the first time, the Transformations Community will host its 7th biennial conference in Africa. With a focus on collaboration, this event brings together researchers, experts, and their community partners who co-produce knowledge and actionable solutions for sustainability transformations.

From Europe to South America, the United States to Australia, the Transformations Conference has connected minds globally. In 2025, we are excited to bring this event to Africa, expanding our global reach and further strengthening international collaboration in sustainability transformations.

For the 2025 edition, we are proud to partner with ESG project, the largest social science research network in the area of governance and global environmental change. ESG project has a rich history of hosting global conferences in cities like Amsterdam, Colorado, Lund, Tokyo, Nairobi, and Oaxaca.

We invite contributions on the following themes:

Transformative culture and learning

Disruptive change

Governance and multilateralism under pressure

We welcome both theoretical and practical contributions, including techniques, strategies, workshops, and case studies. Emphasizing case studies that demonstrate how practices lead to systemic change is highly encouraged, ensuring actionable insights. This blend of theory and practice fosters a dialogue that connects academic rigor with real-world application.

Frequently asked questions

When is the deadline to submit a proposal?

The deadline for submission is November 30, 2024

What is the practical difference between the two submission deadlines?

We strongly encourage everyone to aim to submit to the main deadline (30th of Nov) in order to ensure sufficient time for travel booking/visa applications and to ensure the availability of accommodation in Skukuza (which can fill up early in the year). It is particularly important to submit for the main deadline if you are proposing a Speed Talk or Interactive Panel-Dialogue Session as we expect the allocation for these session formats to be filled after the first round of submissions.

When does registration for the TC/ESG 2025 Conference begin?

Registration opens in January 2025. Stay tuned for updates on early-bird discounts and event details by subscribing to our newsletter or following us on social media!

Are there any discounts for early registration?

In the first months after Ticket Registration we will offer an early bird discount.

Is it possible to submit more than one proposal per person?

Individuals are welcome to submit multiple proposals. However, to encourage broader participation, we may limit the number of accepted proposals per person. Some proposals may be invited for online-only participation depending on program needs.
